Getting Started
What is Incentive?
Incentive is a social and jobs network built for college campuses. You can post and follow updates, join clubs and organizations, RSVP to campus events, read articles, message other students, and discover jobs and internships — all in one place.
The app is organized by campus, so the people, groups, events, and opportunities you see are tied to your college community.
How do I create an account?
On the welcome screen, tap “Sign up,” enter your email, then create and confirm a password. After that, you’ll be guided through a short onboarding flow to set up your profile.
Incentive is built around college communities, so use your school email when you sign up so we can match you to the right campus.
How do I log in or reset my password?
Tap “Log in” on the welcome screen, enter your email and password, and you’re in.
Forgot your password? On the password screen, tap “Forgot your password?” We’ll email you a reset link. Open it, choose a new password, and confirm it to finish.
What happens during onboarding?
Onboarding walks you through building your profile step by step: adding a profile photo and display name, an optional bio and social links, your class year and graduation year, the career fields and opportunity types you’re interested in, and the campus centers you want to follow.
Most steps can be skipped and filled in later from Settings, but a more complete profile gives you better recommendations.
Why should I complete my profile?
A more complete profile (photo, bio, academic info, skills, and experience) helps people find you, improves your recommendations, and auto-fills job applications, so it’s worth finishing.
Your Profile
How do I edit my profile?
Open Settings and use the Personal, Professional, and Academic sections to edit your information.
Personal covers your name, email, phone, bio, and social links. Professional covers industries, skills, certifications, and experience. Academic covers your major, GPA, graduation year, and education history.
What can I add to my profile?
A profile photo, display name, and bio; social and external links (LinkedIn, GitHub, Instagram, TikTok, X, Substack, and a portfolio); your skills, certifications, and work or internship experience; and your academic details such as major, minor, class year, graduation year, and schools attended.
How do I change my profile photo?
In Settings, open Personal → Basic Information (or the photo section of your profile editor) and tap your photo to choose a new image from your photo library.
Can I feature a post on my profile?
Yes. On one of your own posts, tap the “•••” menu and choose “Pin to Profile.” The pinned post appears at the top of your profile. Use “Unpin from Profile” from the same menu to remove it.
Posts & the Feed
How do I create a post?
Tap the “+” create button and choose “Post.” Add your text, then optionally attach photos or a video, add a link, mention people or groups with “@”, and include hashtags.
When you’re ready, tap to publish and your post appears in the feeds of people who follow you.
How many photos or how long a video can I add?
You can attach up to 8 photos to a single post.
Videos can be up to 60 seconds long. If a video is longer, you’ll be asked to trim it before posting.
What shows up in my feed?
Your home feed is made up of posts from the people and groups you follow, plus featured content. It loads more posts as you scroll, and you can pull down from the top to refresh.
How do I like, comment, share, or save a post?
Every post has quick actions: tap the heart to like, the speech bubble to comment, and the share icon to send it to a chat or copy a link.
To save a post for later, tap the “•••” menu and choose “Bookmark.” You’ll find it again under Bookmarks.
How do I delete my post?
Open the “•••” menu on your own post and choose “Delete Post.” Deleting is permanent and also removes the post’s comments and likes.
Can I @mention people, groups, or centers?
Yes. Type “@” while writing a post or comment and start typing a name to mention a person, group, or campus center. Tapping a mention takes you straight to that profile.
Following & People
How does following work?
Incentive uses a follow model rather than friend requests. When you follow someone, their posts can appear in your feed. Following is one-directional — they don’t have to follow you back.
You don’t need to follow someone to message them.
How do I follow or unfollow someone?
Open a person’s profile and tap “Follow.” To stop following, tap “Following” and confirm. Unfollowing doesn’t notify the other person.
Where can I see my followers and who I follow?
On your profile, tap your followers or following counts to see the full lists. The followers view also has a “Mutual” section showing people who follow you back.
Messages
How do I start a direct message?
Open Messages and tap the “+” button to start a new chat. Search for someone or pick from the people you follow, then send your first message to begin the conversation.
How do I find a specific conversation?
Use the search bar at the top of Messages, or switch between the filter tabs: All, Personal (one-on-one chats), Groups (group and club chats), and Unread.
What can I send in a message?
You can send text, photos, videos, and files, and you can share posts, articles, events, jobs, profiles, and links directly into a chat. You can also create polls for others to vote on.
React to a message by long-pressing it, and tap the microphone to dictate a message with your voice instead of typing.
What are message requests?
Messages from people outside your network arrive as requests. You can review them separately and choose to accept (which moves the chat into your inbox) or decline.
Can I pin or mute a conversation?
Yes. Press and hold a conversation to pin it to the top of your inbox or mute its notifications. Muting keeps the conversation but stops it from alerting you.
Do messages show read receipts and typing?
In one-on-one chats you can see when your message has been read, when the other person is typing, and whether they’re currently active.
Groups, Clubs & Organizations
What are groups on Incentive?
Groups are campus communities — clubs, organizations, startups, and publications. Each group has its own profile with posts, events, jobs, articles, members, and followers.
What’s the difference between joining and following a group?
Joining makes you a member, which gives you access to the group’s chat and lets you participate more fully. Following simply means the group’s updates can show up in your feed without making you a member.
You can be both a member and a follower of the same group.
How do I find and join a group?
Open the Groups area to browse featured groups and categories, or use Explore to search by name. On a group’s card or profile, tap “Join” to become a member or “Follow” to get its updates.
How do I create a group?
Tap the “+” create button and choose to create a group. Enter a name and description, pick the group type (club, organization, startup, or publication), choose relevant industries, and optionally add an avatar.
Whoever creates the group becomes its admin.
Events
How do I RSVP to an event?
Open an event to see its full details, then tap “Going” to RSVP. If a “Interested” option is shown, you can use it to mark a maybe. To change your mind, tap to cancel your RSVP.
The attendee count updates as people respond, and you can’t RSVP to events that have already passed.
How do I find events?
Events appear in your feed, in the Campus area (including a “Happening Now” view), in Explore search, and on the profiles of the groups hosting them.
How do online events work?
Events can be in-person or online. Online events include a meeting link on the event page that opens when it’s time to join.
Can I save or share an event?
Yes. Tap the bookmark icon to save an event to your Bookmarks, or use the share option to copy a link or send it to a chat.
Jobs & Internships
How do I find jobs?
Open the Jobs area to browse listings, with tabs like Recent, For You, Internships, Entry Level, and On Campus. You can also search by keyword and filter by industry, company, location, and job type.
How do I apply to a job?
Open a job and tap “Apply.” Some listings support “Easy Apply,” which fills in details from your profile so you can submit in-app; others send you to the company’s website to finish applying.
A more complete profile makes Easy Apply faster, so it helps to fill in your contact info, school, and major.
Can I save a job for later?
Yes. Tap the bookmark icon on a job to save it. Saved jobs appear under Bookmarks.
Articles
Where do I find articles?
Articles appear in Explore and the Campus area, and on the profiles of publications and groups. Tap an article card to open and read it.
Can I listen to an article instead of reading?
Many articles offer audio narration. Tap the audio (speaker) control on the article to listen. If narration is still being prepared, you may briefly see that it isn’t ready yet.
Can I like, comment on, or save an article?
Yes. Articles support likes and threaded comments, and you can bookmark an article from its “•••” menu to read again later.
Explore, Campus & Centers
How do I search the app?
Open Explore and use the search bar to find people, posts, events, articles, jobs, clubs, and organizations. Use the category tabs to narrow results to a specific type.
What is the Campus area?
Campus is a personalized, campus-wide view with category tabs such as Happening Now, Events, Articles, and Jobs. Switch tabs to focus on the kind of content you want, and pull down to refresh.
What are Centers?
Centers are campus resources such as career services and academic support. You can follow centers that matter to you (during onboarding or from Settings) to see their posts and updates.
Bookmarks & Saved Items
How do bookmarks work?
Tap the bookmark option on a post, article, event, or job to save it. Your Bookmarks screen organizes everything you’ve saved into tabs for Posts, Articles, Events, and Jobs.
Bookmarks are private to you. To remove one, open the item and toggle the bookmark off.
Notifications
What notifications will I get?
You can be notified about likes and comments, new followers, messages, job activity, event reminders, and group requests, among other things.
Open Notifications to review them, and use the filter tabs (such as Personal, Groups, Requests, and Jobs) to focus on a category.
How do I change my notification settings?
Go to Settings → Preferences → Notifications. There you can turn push and email notifications on or off and adjust which types you receive, like job alerts, event reminders, and group updates.
Privacy & Safety
What’s the difference between blocking, muting, and reporting?
Blocking cuts off contact: a blocked person can’t message you, and their profile and content are hidden from you. Use it when you don’t want any interaction.
Muting quietly hides someone’s posts from your feed without affecting anything else — they aren’t notified and can still message and comment.
Reporting flags content or a person to our moderation team for review. Reports are confidential and the person you report isn’t told.
How do I block or unblock someone?
Open the person’s profile, tap the “•••” menu, and choose “Block User.” To reverse it, open the same menu and choose “Unblock User.”
How do I mute someone’s posts?
From a person’s profile or one of their posts, open the “•••” menu and choose to mute their posts. Their posts will disappear from your feed right away. Use the same menu to unmute.
How do I report something?
Open the “•••” menu on the post, comment, article, event, group, job, or profile and choose “Report.” Pick a reason (and add details if you choose “Other”), then submit.
Our team reviews reports and takes action according to our policies.
Account & Settings
How do I switch between light and dark mode?
Go to Settings → Preferences → Theme and choose Light, Dark, or match your device’s system setting.
How do I change my password?
Go to Settings → Security. Enter your current password, then your new password twice, and save.
Where can I find the Privacy Policy and Terms?
Go to Settings → Legal Settings to read the Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
How do I delete my account?
Go to Settings → Danger Zone → Delete Account. You’ll see what will be removed (posts, comments, messages, media, group memberships, job applications, and more) and any steps you need to take first.
For example, if you’re the only admin of a group, you’ll be asked to resolve that before deleting. To confirm, type “DELETE” and tap Delete Account. This is permanent and cannot be undone.
For Group & Org Admins
Who is an admin?
The person who creates a group is its admin. Admins manage the group’s details, members, and content such as events and job postings.
How do I create an event for my group?
Tap the “+” create button and choose “Event.” Add a title and description, pick the hosting group, set the date, time, and location, and optionally add a cover image and categories.
Toggle the online-event option to add a meeting link instead of a physical location. Tap “Create” to publish.
How do I edit or delete a group event?
Open the event and use its options menu to edit any detail — title, description, date and time, location, cover image, the online toggle, or categories — or to delete the event. These actions require group admin access.
How do I manage members?
As an admin you can add or remove members and edit the group’s information, including its name, description, industries, and links, from the group’s management options.
Can my group post jobs and articles?
Yes. Groups can share job postings and articles in addition to regular posts and events, which appear on the group’s profile under the matching tabs.
I’m the only admin and want to delete my account — what happens?
Account deletion is blocked while you’re the sole admin of a group, so the group isn’t left without an owner. You’ll see the affected group with a shortcut to open it. Add another admin or resolve the group first, then return to delete your account.
Troubleshooting & Support
Something isn’t loading — what should I try?
Pull down to refresh the screen, check your internet connection, and make sure you’re running the latest version of the app. If a problem persists, closing and reopening the app often helps.
How do I report a problem or contact support?
Use the “Email Support” button at the bottom of this page, or the “Report a Problem” option in Settings. Tell us what happened and what you expected, and we’ll take a look.
